Welcome back to our “old” readers and welcome to our “new” readers. Our Library opening times are as follows:

Monday to Friday 8.30-8.45am and 3.00-3.30pm
Monday to Thursday Both lunch breaks (closed on Friday)

Library Bags
The library bag is to help protect the books your child borrows. The children start borrowing during library lessons, next week, so could parents please ensure that their child/children have a library bag on their library day. If you would like to check when your child/children’s library day is, please ask the girls in the library or your class teacher.

Borrowing Information

Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 – can choose 2 books at any one time
Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, Year 6 – can choose 3 books at any one time
Year 7 – can choose 4 books at any one time

The books become overdue after two weeks. We send any overdue notices home, towards the end of each term. It is requested that any lost or damaged books be paid for at the Finance Office.

Monitors

Thank you to all the Year 4 to Year 7 monitors who have signed up to help in their library throughout the busy year ahead. We look forward to having a very efficiently run library with so many keen helpers.

Volunteers – mums, dads, grandparents, other interested persons
Yes! Yes! Yes! Your school library needs your help. We have lots of pleasant jobs to offer throughout each term. The library is a very busy and popular place. We do need help making sure the resources are available for borrowing. We are very happy to show our volunteers ‘new’ skills if needed. If you can offer us some of your time (no matter how brief), we would LOVE to hear from you. Either drop in and see Lynne or Sharon or phone the School and ask to be put through to the Library.

Book Fair is on again.  In just over one week (Week 6 – Monday 17 to Friday 21 August), your library will turn into a bookstore for five days.  At Robina, we hold two Book Fairs each year and how time flies as it’s time for our second one for the year.  The commission we make on the Book Fairs is used to buy new resources for the children to borrow.

There are lots of new books on the shelves helping to make your library a very busy place.  Parents are welcome to explore the library shelves anytime.  During Book Fair, the Resource Centre (Library) will be open the following times to view and purchase books.

Where:        Resource Centre
When:        Monday 17 August to Friday 21 August
Times        8.30-8.50 Monday to Friday
        3.00-3.30 Monday to Thursday

We will have lots of books for parents and children to choose and buy.  Please come along and maybe you’ll find an idea for a Christmas present.  An invitation to Book Fair will be sent out next week with the newsletter.

Book Week is Week 7

We have the nominated books on display near the circulation desk.  The children in Prep to Year 4 have been listening to the six nominated Early Childhood titles.  They will be asked to vote on their personal favourite and their vote will be recorded on a graph in the Junior Reading Area.  Please pop in and check out what book is Robina State School’s favourite for 2009.  We are wondering if it will be the same one the judges pick.  All the Book Week nominated books will be available for borrowing from Week 8.

Book Safari is our theme for Book Fair and Book Week. If you have something that you think would look good decorating our library could we please borrow it for a couple of weeks (we will look after it).

PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE
Have you finished reading your 20 books and filling out the Reading Record sheet?  You have until Friday 21 August to complete the Challenge. Please return the completed Reading Record to your class teacher or Miss West and Miss Lynne in the library. The certificate from the Premier will be sent to the school and we will hand it out on assembly in Term 4. We will let you know the date of the assembly.

VOLUNTEERS
Thank you! Thank you! What a big help you all are. The process of cataloguing and getting the books out to our readers does have quite a few steps and your help makes it a much faster process which in turn offers your children a wider choice of new books. We appreciate your help and support.  Thanks also to Janine, our talented slice maker, for supplying the snacks and coffee.

DONATIONS
To the families who have donated books to the library this year, we have placed a label inside each book to say thank you to you and the books have been catalogued, covered and shared with the students – we appreciate your thoughtfulness.
