Welcome to Year One 2009 Year One is a year of change and discovery. During the year your child will become literate and numerate and will develop an attitude to learning which will continue through his/her life. In the junior school, we are concerned with the development of the whole child. This means that although we plan experiences to develop your child's cognitive skills, we also plan many experiences to develop their oral language, physical, listening, social/ emotional and self help skills. During Term One we focus on the concept of learning through play and exploration. Our goal as class facilitators is to encourage individual children to achieve their goals and ambitions in a warm, inviting, friendly, supportive and caring environment. In our classes teachers will be working with all students in a variety of learning situations, such as whole class instruction, individual learning and group work situations. Each term we will work on different themes as listed below.
