Schools’ Treeday 2008 saw the students at Robina State School busy planting, weeding and mulching many trees to enhance their own “Special Place”, the only remnant patch of forest in the largely developed Robina area. Our special focus this year was to create a habitat for the Glossy Black Cockatoo and the Richmond Bird Winged butterfly, two animals that used to be common in this area but are now vulnerable due mainly to habitat destruction. We planted black she oaks and special vines for the butterfly larva as well as other native trees to enhance the forest. Two of our local newspapers and Channel 9 reported on our Treeday activities, which allowed us to share it with our community. All the students love working and studying in our special forest area. |
